چکیده

We found an error in our paper recently published in Nutrients [1]. In our discussion of the Karlsson et al. 2004 paper published in the American Journal of Physiology [2], we failed to identify that the dose of branched-chain amino acids (BCAA) was calculated on the basis of body weight. These investigators provided the subjects a total of 100 mg BCAA/kg body weight, not a total ingested dose of 100 g as stated in our paper. This error impacts on the conclusions we draw, as our paper refers to this dose as ‘large’, when in actual fact, the dose of BCAA administered in the Karlsson et al. 2004 paper (calculated, approx. 7.44g) [2], is similar to the 6.6g BCAA amount provided in our study, delivered in 26.6g whey protein isolate [1]. We apologise for any inconvenience caused to the readers.

Whey Protein Ingestion Activates mTOR-dependent Signalling after Resistance Exercise in Young Men: A Double-Blinded Randomized Controlled Trial

The effect of resistance exercise with the ingestion of supplementary protein on the activation of the mTOR cascade, in human skeletal muscle has not been fully elucidated. In this study, the impact of a single bout of resistance exercise, immediately followed by a single dose of whey protein isolate (WPI) or placebo supplement, on the activation of mTOR signalling was analyzed. Young untrained...

Resistance exercise with whey protein ingestion affects mTOR signaling pathway and myostatin in men.

Signaling pathways sense local and systemic signals and regulate muscle hypertrophy. The effects of whey protein ingestion on acute and long-term signaling responses of resistance exercise are not well known. Previously untrained young men were randomized into protein (n = 9), placebo (n = 9), and control (n = 11) groups. Vastus lateralis (VL) muscle biopsies were taken before and 1 h and 48 h ...

Endocrine responses and acute mTOR pathway phosphorylation to resistance exercise with leucine and whey

Leucine ingestion reportedly activates the mTOR pathway in skeletal muscle, contributing to a hypertrophy response. The purpose of the study was to compare the post-resistance exercise effects of leucine and whey protein supplementation on endocrine responses and muscle mTOR pathway phosphorylation. On visit 1, subjects (X±SD; n=20; age=27.8±2.8yrs) provided baseline blood samples for analysis ...

Soy-Dairy Protein Blend or Whey Protein Isolate Ingestion Induces Similar Postexercise Muscle Mechanistic Target of Rapamycin Complex 1 Signaling and Protein Synthesis Responses in Older Men1234

BACKGROUND Previous work demonstrated that a soy-dairy protein blend (PB) prolongs hyperaminoacidemia and muscle protein synthesis in young adults after resistance exercise. OBJECTIVE We investigated the effect of PB in older adults. We hypothesized that PB would prolong hyperaminoacidemia, enhancing mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1) signaling and muscle protein anabolism com...
